Manuscript notebook diary. Original cloth, soiled with leather buckle. 16pp. 1 August 1901- 25 February 1902


The diary was kept sporadically. The author relates the transport and arrival of 1200 troops at Table Bay on August 22nd, 1900. They reached Mafeking on September 10th. He volunteered to join Lord Metheun's Column at Leerust and and joined them on November 3rd. The party then trekked to Marico, Mabaalstad, Brakfontein, Lemonfontein, Hartlebeestfontein. The entries are generally brief, often just a sentence or two, but grows more expansive as it progresses noting skirmishes and the number of men wounded, captured or killed on both sides.
