An Officer of the 10th (or The Prince of Wales's Own) Regiment of Hussars - Dismounted, c.1808.

PLAYER, (Rodney)

MI18499

Highly detailed gouache of an officer on foot, in his right hand he is holding his plumed cocked hat and a cane. Image c. 6" x 4", window-mounted in acid-free plain ivory card, aperture, 9" x 7". Signed and dated, 2001

The very image of the dandyish Regency cavalry Officer, he sports extravagant side-whiskers and a nonchalant quiff of curls, his scarlet-lined pelisse is hanging loosely on one shoulder to reveal the colourful interior contrasting with its blue cloth and silver fur trimmings. A characterful uniform study, the details finely worked.
