STC 12585 (+;+). The title is leaf A3. Leaves D11v and D12r are mis-imposed. The first two parts were published in 1634 and again in 1635/6. This is the first appearance of the third part. With separate titles to the second and third parts dated 1639 and 1640. Attractively printed with type ornament borders on every page (a few slightly shaved and a few initial letters just touched). "Castara" is the Catholic metaphysical poet Habington's wife, Lucy Herbert, daughter of William, 1st. Baron Herbert. Most of the poems in the first two parts are addressed to her but others are addressed to friends and relatives: E[ndymion]. P[orter]., R. B[rudenell], the Countess of "Ar[undel or Argyll].", the Earl of Shrewsbury, G. T[albot]., Lady E.P., Mr. Wm. E., R. St., Lady F., Henry, Lord M., Lord P[owis]., Mr. E.C., the Earl of St., Hon. G. T[albot]., Sir I.P., Archibald, the Earl of Ar[gyll]., Hon. Henry Cam[p]bell, the Countess of C., I.C., and end with 8 funeral elegies on his friend George Talbot. The third part commences with the character of a Holy Man, followed by 22 devotional poems, mainly on King David or Job. Four of these are addressed to Lord Windsor, Lord Kintyre, Lady Cat. T[albot]., and Sir Hen. Per[cy]. A poem on p. 84 proposes drinking a health to Shakespeare's ghost. Provenance: early signature of "Ber. Hyde" and "Savil Hyde" on the title.
