Trans: "I request that Monsieur Giraud give the bearer four copies of la Dame aux Camelias. . ."
Dumas originally wrote this fictionalised account of his love affair with Marie Duplessis as a novel. He later turned the novel into a highly successful play, published by the firm of Giraud et Dagneau. The play quickly became a favourite both with the public and with leading ladies, most notably Sarah Bernhardt, who starred in a film version in 1911, when in her sixties.
