WALTON, William (1902-1983). English Composer.

Autograph Musical Quotation Signed ("William Walton"), the opening six bars of his Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, inscribed by him at the top "for Jascha Heifetz".

Walton's Violin Concerto had its premiere in December 1939, performed by Jascha Heifetz with the Cleveland Orchestra. Walton was unable to attend, and the London premiere, which he conducted, took place two years later.
