"Your kind assistance in connection with "The Imperial Institute" would be of the greatest value & I venture to think that the announcement of your name as a Member of the Temporary Committee which I have formed would be highly appreciated by the Public - Being convinced that you would render excellent service to the scheme which I have so much at heart I should consider it as a great kindness on your part . . . if you would consent to join the Committee in question."

The Imperial Institute of the Colonies and India was established in commemoration of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee with the object of representing "the arts manufactures and commerce" of the Empire. Renamed the Commonwealth Institute in 1958, it continues to do very worthwhile work, particularly by hosting concerts and art exhibitions.
