The original edition of this title is very scarce. These two journals provide an informative overview of the British Niger Expedition of 1851, led by William Allen. Due to the death of many of the members of the expedition it was generally acknowledged as a failure, and discredted missionary colonisation for years after. Crowther, an African, however, so impressed the authorities that he was invited back to England and duly ordained Bishop of the Niger in 1843.
