Double-page engraved map, 479 x 660 mm, in fine original wash colour. The paper is watermarked 'W. THOMAS 1818'. London : Richard Holmes Laurie, 12th May,
Rare printing of this important map of Maritime Canada and new England. The map was first published in 1776, as one of three maps of the theatre of war in the American Revolutionary War. The plate remained in use after the war, here revised and improved to 1823.
After the Revolutionary War, there was ongoing debate about the boundaries between Maine and New Brunswick; this example is coloured to show the British claim to much of northern Maine.
Although a late printing, this is a very good example, in bright attractive colour, with good margins.
We have been unablke to trace an example of this state in a British institution.
