Small 8vo. Sixty-two plates, included in the pagination. Very good wire-stitched in the original red light card wraps, spine professionally restored, end-pocket renewed. 67pp. twelve amendment sheets and brochures constituting 52pp. additions. The War Office, December, 1943 amendments run to February
Absolutely fascinating compilation of pictures and diagrams of German sabotage devices, referred to in use as "The RED BOOK" or just "RED". Operatives could identify items by their RED number, thus RED 25 "Mark IV Clockwork Delay" or RED 53 "Thermos Flask Incendiary Bomb". Amendments 2-4 - strangely no Amendment 1, presumably it was already folded into the text of this issue - are bound in and pagination is continuous, Amendments 5-15 loosely inserted in an end-pocket. Here are revealed the mysteries of the tyre-burster disguised as horse dung, the HE belt, and the wooden coat-hanger containing "four detonators and safety fuse".
Certainly uncommon, OCLC turns up only three slight variants, this despite print runs on the later amendments of up to 11,500 copies.
