Available to view at our Curzon Street shop.

First editions. 5 issues in 4. Tall 8vo. The profusely illustrated volume 2/1 features the second version of the Andy Warhol front cover (the first, rejected by Warhol, had printed lines between the yellow and black stamps instead of perforations). All in the original glossy stiff card covers, apart from the Warhol cover in undersized thin gummed paper. A crisp, clean set. 64; 68; [80] unpaginated; 119, [1]pp. New York, Hawk's Well Press,

An important magazine of American avant-garde art and writing, rarely seen in this condition. It is particularly hard to find a copy of Vol2 #1 with the Warhol cover clean and intact, as it is here. Gerard Malanga, a fixture in the downtown scene, friend of Warhol and poet, has signed his name in pencil at his contribution on the contents leaf of #4/5.

Warhol's stickers for the Vietnam Assemblage Issue proclaim Bomb Hanoi and some/thing Hanoi. The issue as a whole is a harsh but heartfelt critique of US intervention in Vietnam, in beautifully conceived layouts with background photographs of the realities of war. The other cover designs were Amy Mendlesohn's for #1, a photo of a Robert Morris sculpture for Vol2, #2 and George Maciunas for 4/5, the double issue.

Contributors include Allen Ginsberg, Ted Berrigan, Charles Bukowski, Denise Levertov, Allan Kaprow, Jackson Mac Low, Margaret Randall, Carole Schneemann, Gary Snyder, Anselm Hollo, Diane Wakoski et al.
