Cohen's mylar chamber, in which subjects sat to pose for his portraits and films, transformed people into a series of multiplied 'psychedelic' reflections. In this portrait, part of a sitting from which several other mylar portraits of Hendrix were produced, the guitarist is wearing a silk robe and lounging on velvet cushions. Cohen's obituary in the New York times quoted Hendrix as describing his mylar portraits as like "looking through butterfly wings". Cohen's obituary in the New York Times, notes that Hendrix thought that his mylar portraits of him were like "looking through butterfly wings".
