Cohen's mylar chamber, in which subjects sat to pose for his portraits and films, transformed people into a series of multiplied 'psychedelic' reflections. In this portrait, part of a sitting from which several other mylar portraits of Hendrix were produced, the guitarist is wearing a silk robe and lounging on velvet cushions. Cohen's obituary in the New York times quoted Hendrix as describing his mylar portraits as like "looking through butterfly wings".
