A fine run containing some of Conan Doyle's greatest Sherlock Holmes stories in their earliest incarnation, with George Charles Haité's splendid cover, containing some illustrations which did not make their way into the published volumes. With volumes 2-6 containing The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, 1891 - 1893; volumes 26 - 28, containing The Return of Sherlock Holmes, 1903-1904; volume 42, containing The Disappearance of Lady Frances Carfax, 1911; and volume 46, containing The Adventure of the Dying Detective, 1913.
The Strand magazine was a great success, the early issues a veritable compendium of the literary greats of the day. from Kipling to Churchill, H.G. Wells to Max Beerbohm'
The first publication of all of these stories (with the US edition preceding The Adventure of the Dying Detective in the Collier's Magazine, by a month). A few volumes rubbed on the spine, generally a good run.
