Yamazaki Hiroshi was born in 1946 in Nagano Prefecture. In 1968 he quit his studies at Nihon University and became a freelance photographer. In 1983 he was awarded the Newcomer's prize by the Japan Photographic Society for his series 'The Sea and the Sun'. He became famous for his 'Heliography' images (1983) showing the movement of the sun over the sea using extremely long exposure time. The present is his second book focusing on seascapes. "The temporal sequence rather than diverse location is more important in my photography..." (Author's note). Yamazaki won the 26th Ina Nobuo Award in 2001 and now teaches at the Tohoku University of Art and Design. Book design by Katayama Kazunari. Otsuji Kiyoji (1923-2001) was one of the most respected photographers and photography teachers of his time.
