Viscount Saneyoshi Yasuzumi (1848–1932) was a pioneer of naval medicine during the Meiji period. He studied medicine at London's St. Thomas hospital for six years before returning to Japan where he became an instructor at the Naval Medical Academy. The present work is an important treatise on the new type of injuries sustained as a result of shelling and the illustrations are consequently rather gruesome. Rare.
