First edition. 10 vols. (complete). Each issue with a photographic frontispiece. Japanese text. 8vo. Original printed flexible boards (slightly sunned). Occasional light fingerstaining, but overall a very good set. Tokyo, Privately Printed, October 1986-July

A rare magazine published in memory of the famous avant-garde dancer Hijikata Tatsumi (1928-1986), founder of the Asbestos Hall, a Butoh dance company. Hijikata was a master dancer who used his body to construct expressive movements. His movements often appeared like an impulse to show a wide range of qualities that could be demonic, dark, grotesque, and extreme. The magazine includes a wide range of contributions from the world of acting, art, poetry, and history, (incl. Shiraishi Kazuko, Haniya Yutaka, Nagata Koi, Tanemura Sunehiro, Donald Ritchie, Takahashi Mutsuo, Mori Mari and others). Includes frontispiece portraits of Hijikata taken by Hosoe Eikoh. Rare. Only 3 copies in OCLC (Chicago, National Diet, Waseda).
