With an engraved title-page and frontispiece ('Bay and Harbour of Hong Kong') by John Pye (both rather foxed), and an engraved diary section with 14 headpiece vignettes also by Pye; a very good copy, in the original yellow glazed paper covers, gilt edges, card slipcase printed in blue. An attractive illustrated almanac, with a frontispiece and one vignette of Hong Kong. Other views include Tahiti, Guadeloupe, Antigua. Hong Kong had been ceded to the British in the Treaty of Nanking in 1842 at the end of the First Opium War. The engraver John Pye took made a career from his contributions to pocket-books and annuals; his work appeared in Peacock's Polite Repository from 1813 to 1858.
