Richard Bentley's "ingenious" illustrations for Thomas Gray's poems which the author felt were merely 'subordinate & explanatory to the Drawings'" (ODNB). The first edition appeared in 1753 and it was re-printed three times in the same year before this present edition. ESTC records that the only institutional copies in the U.K. are at the British Library and the National Library of Scotland. The poems include "Ode on the Spring", Ode on a distant Prospect of Eton Cathedral" and "Elegy Written in a Country Church Yard".
