This history of the Anabaptists first appeared in 1695 and went through several editions at the beginning of the 18th century. In the introduction, Catrou writes how the sect had survived until present times under different names including the Mennonites; the book is clearly hostile and considers that the most damaging of their errors are those which attack society and want to do away with laws, to bring about a golden age where all things are owned in common.
